Baker Art Studio

photographer: L N Baker
199 & 201 South High Street, Columbus Ohio

Above is a somewhat unusual example showing the name of the photographer instead of just the name Baker or Baker Art Studio. This example would have been done during that period when Lorenzo Norman Baker was working at the studio at 199-201 High Street, 1889 to 1891.

Lorenzo Marvin Baker (1834-1924)
Lorenzo Norman Baker (1861-1905
Duane Henry Baker (1859-1934)
Lorenzo Phillip Baker (1894-18470

There are many examples of the Baker Art Studio work available. The studio, operated at times by four different Baker family members and others, counted many famous and important people as their customers. See the Wikimedia page here.

The Baker Art Gallery for many years was operated by Lorenzo Marvin Baker with his older son, Duane H Baker, and John S. Schneider. Lorenzo M Baker eventually retired and Duane Baker took over the studio. Duane’s son Lorenzo P Baker also worked at the studio.

Lorenzo M Baker’s younger son, Lorenzo Norman Baker also worked in the Baker studio. At times he operated extensions of the Baker studio in other towns such as Marysville, OH. Some sources say he also for a time, operated in Miami, Ohio but nothing has been found so far, to support this.

Not many of the examples from the Baker Studios are imprinted with the address of the studio so dating a cabinet card will often be difficult.

Listed here are the addresses found and the approximate dates Baker studio was operating at that location. From 1892 to 1924 the Baker Art Studio was located at 106 ½ South High, Columbus.
