Following is a separate timeline for Etta Brown. It does show that she was photographer only while married to A J Stroud.
After the separation, she left Kansas, moved to Portland, OR, and returned briefly to her maiden name.

Etta M Brown

1864 Mar
Van Buren County, Iowa, Etta M Brown is born to David Brown and Eliza Jam Morris

1900 Jun 01
Jasper, MO, US census, Etta M Stroud as photographer with husband A G Stroud as photographer; boarder Melvin A Sheets as photographer; Lodger Denna Schell as retoucher

It is only speculation to explain why the card featured here has the initials E M S instead of A J S.

It is possible that when A J Stroud branched out and was operating a gallery in Chase, KS, and possible others cities, that Etta continued to operate the studio in Hutchinson under her own name.

The Strouds separated sometime around 1902. It is possible that Etta continued to operate the Hutchinson gallery for a short time on her own after Alfred left the state.
Either way, the date of the card must fall between 1891 and about 1900.
