  1. Findagrave only uses "O" and gravestone has 1837 - https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/68864320/o-pierre-havens
Could you cite where "Oscar" is from? And any idea if 1837 or 1838 is correct? Thanks, your clippings are very informative.

    1. Thanks for your comment. The only source for “Oscar” was the 1860 US census which lists him as Oscar P Havens, 22 years old in Ossing, NY. It also lists his occupation as Daguerre artist, although the census enumerator obviously has trouble with the spelling. Havens is listed with Emily Lewis, 49, and a Howard Lewis at age 10. Emily Lewis seems to be O P Havens’ step mother or adoptive mother, or perhaps he is a child from a previous marriage. Nothing has been found so far to establish the relationship.

O P Havens is listed in the 1850 US census at age 12 as “Oscar H” living with Emily Lewis and William Lewis. Howard Lewis, age 8/12 is also listed.

All documents found point to 1937 as his birth year. The entry on this page has been corrected.. 1938 was just a typo I guess; I see no documentation for it.

Thanks for the nudge. The page will be updated this week. Maybe something new has emerged.
