Austin, TX, state records, Samuel B Hill dies at age 72

Only three addresses have been found for the S B Hill studio in Austin, TX: 817 Congress, 1879 through 1885; 915 Congress 1885 through January of 1906 and then briefly, 104 East tenth. If a cabinet card is imprinted with the address, a date can be established easily.

It appears that Sam Hill switched officially from photography to real estate sometime between 1909 and 1910. But that is possibly only partly true. It is quite possible that he kept the studio at 104 East 10th in name only, operated by another photographer, although no advertisements have been found to support this.

At the right is an unusual example. It has been trimmed at the bottom as some cabinet cards are done so they fit into the album pockets easier. But this one was imprinted upside down AND after the photo print was mounted to the card.
