1901, 1902, 1906 Davenport, IA, city directory, no photograph gallery at 320 Brady; John B Hostetler, photographer is at 210 Brady

The documents on Jarvis White are rather scarce but the Davenport, IA, studio “Jarvis White Art Co.” operated under that name from about 1890 to 1900. Jarvis White might actually have operated the place from about 1890 to 1892, and then he returned to Superior, WI, and acted only as “president” of the company. It was about an 8 hour trip by train.

In 1894, John B Hostetler took over as president at the same location and kept the name “Jarvis White Art Co” until 1900.

So, any cabinet cards with the imprint of only, “Jarvis White Art Co, could have been done at any time during that decade from 1890 to 1900. Other imprints might narrow it down a bit.

Albion K P Trask
(1831 - 1900)

Albion K P Trask began his business career as a barber/hair dresser in Bangor, ME. In 1860 Albion and a nephew, Manley G Trask, worked as barbers and lived at the same address. In 1863, Manley switches careers to photography. Albion is still a barber/hair dresser.

Albion Trask’s son, son gets into photography in 1863. After the move in late 1864, to Philadelphia, PA, Albion Trask begins his photography career and remains with it until his death in 1900.

Complicating research was an Albion K Trask, a lumberman in Minneapolis, MN, about the same age as Albion K P Trask, photographer in Philadelphia, PA.

Trask is mentioned in the review of Gilbert and Bacon.
