In the 1880 census he is noted as a farmer.

The US census of 1900 lists Joyce as “Jeweler/photographer”.

Also he is mentioned as “watchmaker, jeweler and photographer” in a Little Rock Gazette newspaper article about Warren, AR dated 1894 Jan 20.

By the 1910 census, he is a practicing physician.

So until more information is found, M J H Joyce was a photographer at some time between 1890 and 1910. According to the birth certificates of two of his children and a mention in a newspaper article, M J H Joyce was in Warren, AR, beginning in 1891 and the following years possibly up to 1900 where he is then listed in the US census as living in Pennington, AR.
