A great deal of guesswork, speculation and imagination was used to sketch out the life of Joseph J Caddy, photographer. With misspellings, illegible penmanship and missing documents, this review is only a patchwork view of the life of Joseph J Caddy, photographer.
It appears Joseph J Caddy was a photographer only a short time and even then, not all at once. Examples of his work will be rare.

Here is a recap of the scant photograph history of J J Caddy.
1887 Johnstown, PA, Joseph J Caddy as photo-artist at age 23 he was probably working for a local studio; living with his dad at a boarding house
1889 Johnstown, PA, Joseph J Caddy partners with James Davis as Davis and Caddy photography, at 170 Main Street
1893 Johnstown, PA, Joseph J Caddy partners with Wesley Green as Green and Caddy photographers at corner of Franklin and Storycreek Streets
1896 Johnstown, PA, Joseph J Caddy as photographer 300 Franklin
Shortly after this he seems to fade back into the Coal business with his father, Thomas H Caddy
1901 Johnstown, PA, Joseph J Caddy as photographer AND working with his father at Caddy Coal Co
1903 Johnstown, PA, Joseph J Caddy as photographer, NOT listed in business pages so he is probably working for another photographer
1905 to 1911 he appears to be back in only the coal business
1918 Joseph J Caddy is an insurance agent
1920 through 1930 J J Cady listed as “artist” apparently working other for photographer’s studios
So a cabinet card crediting J J Caddy alone, with his own studio, will probably be from between 1896 and 1901, the only time found that he was working on his own. The rest of the time he was apparently with a partner or working for another photographer studio. Remember also, partnerships came and went, sometimes lasting only a few weeks. A city directory listing might mean there was a partnership the DAY of the listing and no longer existed afterward.
At first there seemed to be a flood of information about photographer Wesley Green available for a time-line. Closer examination revealed however, that there were three people using the name Wesley Green touching the photography business in roughly the same geographic area. Reviewing the findings and sorting facts by connecting home addresses, spouse names and businesses, the following timeline was assembled.
Oddly, through many applicable documents were assembled, no middle name was ever found for Wesley Green.

The information on James Davis was sketchy but there is enough to show he was only in the photography business a short time. His main occupations seem to have been steel and boiler works and truck farmer. The photography seems to be limited to 1880 to 1889.
