St Louis (MO) Dispatch, Obituary, Louis Roth dies at age 79

It’s not clear what happened to Louis Roth after 1930. The Los Angeles, CA, city directories are incomplete or missing for all the years between 1931 and 1940. He might have returned to St. Louis but it is unknown.

To recap the known St Louis, MO, locations when Roth was working in his own studio:
Seltzer and Roth, 1633 s Broadway, St Louis, MO, 1885-1887
Roth, studio at 2006 s Broadway, St Louis, MO, 1889 - 1902
Roth, studio at 2004 s Broadway, St Louis, MO, 1908 - 1910

After that he appears to retire or work in another photographer’s studio.

The cabinet card at the top would have been done in that period between 1889 and 1902 when he had a studio at 2006 S Broadway.

New examples and additional information are always welcome. Any additional information will help narrow the time that these precious antiques were made.

All submissions should be free of glare and shadows. Do not crop. Leave a border around each card. The edges are sometimes an important clue to the age of the card.

Some examples on this page have been enhanced or restored for clarity and presentation here.
