Kunkel and Kiddoo apparently worked Saint Joseph, MO, and many
surrounding towns. Sometimes this was done from a “photo car” that
they moved every month or so. There is some indication that the car
was not a railroad car as one news item mentions they will remain in a
town a little longer because of muddy roads. This partnership lasted
only for a couple months, April and May of 1898. Ads after that show
them going separate ways.
Records of Kiddoo and the photography business is rather sketchy between 1902
and 1909. He was probably working in Iowa.
Kunkel leaves Saint Joseph, MO, and turns up again in King
City, MO in April of 1910, opening a studio there.
It appears that a second partnership began in February of 1909 and ran
to December of 1913 when the studio was sold to photographer Weary.
The cabinet card here was probably finished during the first
partnership in 1898 as their “Permanent” address would have been St.
Joseph, MO, at that time.

The news items in the Darlington Record list the photographers being in Darlington, not Darlingville.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Good catch! Let me know if you find any more typos and errors!
DeleteKiddoo seems to have set up shop in the town of Glenwood, Idaho; a relative has two photos with his logo, one stamped on the paper frame and the other a stamped cabinet card.
ReplyDeleteWow! Glenwood, Idaho, is more than 1000 miles from Kiddoo’s usual territory. Love to see that one. Could it be a misprint? Glenwood, IOWA is only 77 miles from Creston, Iowa. And perhaps there was another photographer named Kiddoo working near the west coast. If you can get a scan or photo of the card send it to the email address found in the profile at the bottom of this page. Thanks!
