Schuylkill, PA, Daniel Snyder dies at age 76
Daniel Snyder’s middle initial is given as U, W, and H. There is no
explanation for this. They are not separate Daniel Snyders, as all
other factors, wife, age, children, profession and address, show it is
the same person.
In 1880 Mary Walton's middle initial shifts from E to L with other
facts remaining the same.
Snyder partnered with Mary Walton from 1878 through 1893. Snyder seems
to leave the photography business in 1894 and Walton disappears
completely. No records found on her after 1893.
Following is a recap of the studio addresses as shown by city
directgory, all in Philadelphia, PA, as Snyder and Walton. Keep in
mind that the address numbers may be misprints, just like the middle
initial of Snyder. They may never have moved from 227-229 Girard.

With address variations, these are typical listings from 1879 through 1894
And then there’s this mysterious item found in the Philadelphia (PA)
Inquirer newspaper. It is possible that Daniel Snider and Mary Walton
operated an arcade photo gallery in Atlantic City, NJ. In 1905, Snyder
was 69 years old and working in a coal mine. No documents have been
found to show where Walton was after 1894, but she would be about 60
in 1905.
Was it the studio of Snyder and Walton in name only? No other
documents have been found related to this.

While doing research on Daniel Snyder of Snyder and Walton,
Oliver R Snyder turned up. Some research had to be followed
just to prove he was NOT the Snyder in Snyder and Walton.
Oliver R Snyder
(16 Jan 1861 - 15 Aug 1934)
Oliver R Snyder worked as photographer most of his life. With the
exception of 1919 and 1920 when he worked as oil attendant for a
railroad and in 1910 when he worked as a janitor in a bank, all
documents describe him as photographer.
It was only in 1909 that he is shown as having his own studio at
217 w Long in DuBois, PA. In every other document it seems he was
working for someone else.
The 1908 Butler, PA, city directory indicates he is an employed
photographer and the 1910 DuBois, PA, city directory shows him as a
janitor for a bank. So it was only during 1909 that he had his own
studio. This photograph would have been made then.
So the Cabinet Card shown here, from the
collection of KEN on Flickr, is quite rare.

Note that the these two cards are stamped "New York Gallery". This
is just one of many galleries or studios with "NEW YORK" included in
the name, appearing in several states, even as far west as
California.

This is probably not the same Snyder. It has not been found that Daniel Snyder was ever in Minneapolis, MN.
