Really not very much was found to assemble a timeline for Harry Fisk Brown. Here is a rather sketchy recap:

1892 – 1897 gallery in Gothenburg, NE
1898 – 1902 possibly had a gallery in both Central City and Genoa, NE, at the same time
1907 – 1910 Genoa, NE - possibly had a gallery
1916 Butte, MT - possibly had a gallery
These dates are very hazy. Some personal items are included to show location.

There was also a Harry S Brown photographer, in Nebraska.

The Studio called Star Gallery was advertised from about February 1890 to February of 1891 operated by Will Taylor and then after December 1890 by J H Woods.

The Gallery at 418 Court Street in Beatrice was operated by H J Riggert in 1904 and by L E Curtis in 1907, according to the only city directories of the era.

Soderberg, Pahr (Pont)

photographer:
Soderberg
Sutton, Nebraska

photographer:
Soderberg
Sutton, Nebraska

Pahr and Pont Soderberg are the same person. Both are listed in various documents with wife Anna and son Clyde. Son Clyde is listed as an electrician or electrical salesman.

There exists a cabinet card imprinted by a Smith and Soderberg working in Marengo, IA, in the 1880’s but no evidence has been found to show that Parh (Pont) Soderberg was ever in Iowa. Such a partnership could only have been in that brief period between his immigration in 1871 and 1884 when he is reported working in a photograph studio on a rail car, in Lincoln, NE. By 1889 he was living in Sutton, NB.

Sometime during 1916 or 1917 Pahr (Pont) Soderberg and his wife Anna moved to Pasadena, Los Angeles, CA. He appears to retire from photography altogether. And the given name Pahr is used from that time on.

Sometime between 1920 and 1924, their son Clyde Payne Soderberg and his wife Francis, divorced, and he moved in with his parents in California. In 1937, Clyde’s son, Robert, also moves to California at the same address according to city directories and school yearbooks.

Christensen

Several photographers named Christensen were found, four in Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska. This item from the Bulletin of Photography vol 22 - 1918 makes A C Christensen seem the best choice: “A. C. Christensen of Nelson, NE has disposed of his studio to H F Galusha.”

Nelson, NE, is only about 80 miles from St. Paul, NE, but the only A C Christensen found, although he lived in St Paul, NE, 1900-1910, was not born until 1891, much too late to be the photographer here.

So at this point, the Christensen credited here was probably an itinerant photographer based in another larger town. St Paul, NE, was on a rail line from Grand Island, NE, and other points, such as Duluth, MN.

Commenter D W Bradley has discovered evidence that the initials are indeed H P Christensen and not P H.

Evidence so far indicates the photographer Christensen of Nebraska was the same as the Christensen of Minnesota.

Lee

Lee of York, NE
and Stromsburg, NE

This card is imprinted
Lee at York, NE
and
Lee at Stromsburg, NE
The 1910 US census lists:
H Lee at Center City, NE
Alex Lee at Bryant, Fillmore, NE
Clifford W Lee at Plainview, NE
Albert Lee at Union, NE
Margaret M Lee at Omaha, NE

All of these small towns, with the exception of Plainview, NE, are within 100 miles of York, NE.
York, Stromsburg, Center City and Bryant are about 30 miles apart.

At last count there were 21 photographers named Lee in the cabinet Card era. As the field is narrowed down to the Lee that possibly finished this card, the information will be added here.

Without a first name, it is difficult to tell which Lee in this list, if any, did this card.

The next card is probably not the same as the Nebraska photographer Lee.

Oconto, WI is 700 miles from York, NE.
